Tape emulation plugins often concentrate on the sound left behind by magnetic recording: saturation, hiss, softened transients, darker frequency response, wow, and flutter. Gazillion Industries takes a more physical approach with two effects released in September 2026. Skruu treats changes in playback speed, pitch, and duration as gestures a producer can perform, while Triple OG turns the behavior of a cassette transport into an interactive effect.

Gazillion Industries released both plugins for macOS and Windows, with KVR Audio reporting their launch on September 12, 2026. Each costs $29. Yet their connection is more interesting than their matching price. Skruu separates pitch from time and lets both spring back through programmable motion. Triple OG models cassette color, then gives the producer direct control over a transport that can drag, jam, recover, and surge forward.

The result is a different interpretation of tape-inspired production. Instead of choosing how old or unstable a recording should sound and leaving the plugin running, these tools make speed instability something producers can play against the rhythm of a track.

Skruu Breaks The Old Link Between Tape Speed And Pitch

Physical tape has a simple relationship between speed, timing, and pitch. Run the transport faster and the recording becomes shorter and higher. Slow it down and the recording becomes longer and lower. Classic varispeed techniques depend on that relationship.

Skruu deliberately breaks it.

Gazillion’s Skruu pitch and time controls separate PITCH from TIME, which means a producer can shorten a loop while lowering its pitch, lengthen it while raising the pitch, freeze one parameter and move the other, or push the two in opposite directions.

PITCH ranges from -20% to +10% across 128 states and displays its movement in both speed and semitones. TIME ranges from -50% to +25% and affects duration independently. PITCH LOCK and TIME LOCK let one side remain fixed while the other moves.

This makes Skruu less like a traditional tape emulation and more like a playable interpretation of varispeed behavior.

The useful word here is “playable.” Producers have had access to pitch shifting and time stretching for decades. DAWs can stretch clips, transpose samples, automate playback rate, and perform complex offline processing. Skruu’s contribution is putting those changes behind controls meant to be pushed during playback and released.

That shifts the producer’s attention from setting a value to performing a movement.

Elastic Controls Turn Parameter Changes Into Gestures

Skruu’s ELASTIC PITCH and ELASTIC TIME sections are what separate the effect from a basic pitch-and-stretch utility.

When ELASTIC is active, moving one of the controls pulls the parameter away from its starting point. Releasing the control makes it travel back. Gazillion provides separate settings for how that return behaves instead of forcing every movement into the same linear reset.

RETURN determines how long the trip home takes. It can operate freely or align the recovery with the musical bar. BITE controls how decisively the movement commits. SLOPE chooses the character of the return.

Gazillion provides 16 SLOPE shapes: RAMP, GLIDE, SNAP, WHIP, HANG, CREEP, STAIRS, HALVES, RATCHET, DRUNK, LURCH, BOUNCE, WOBBLE, TREMOR, KICK, and CLIFF. The company divides those into smooth, stepped, and overshooting behaviors.

That means one gesture can have several musical endings.

A smooth return can make a drum loop bend and settle naturally. A stepped return can turn the same movement into a rhythmic staircase. An overshooting shape can pass its resting point before recovering, creating another pitch or timing event after the producer has already released the control.

KVR Audio’s September 2026 release report identifies those elastic returns as a defining part of Skruu, rather than presenting the plugin as another static lo-fi processor.

The distinction matters in electronic production. Automation normally asks the producer to draw the complete trajectory beforehand. Skruu lets the producer create the initiating gesture, then lets the chosen elastic behavior finish it.

Sampling Grade Makes The Movement Rougher At The Source

Skruu adds another layer through four sampling grades: 31.25 kHz, 15.62 kHz, 7.81 kHz, and 3.91 kHz.

Gazillion says these grades are not EQ presets. The lower settings change the sampling grid used by the processing, creating increasingly obvious staircase behavior. All four grades remain available while audio is running, so producers can change the grade during a sound rather than treating it as a fixed quality setting.

That puts Skruu near the border between tape-speed manipulation and deliberately degraded digital sampling.

The combination is useful. A smooth elastic pitch movement at the highest grade can behave very differently from an aggressive return passing through the 3.91 kHz mode. Timing manipulation, pitch motion, and degraded sampling become parts of the same gesture.

DRAG changes how quickly the new speed is reached. At its lowest setting the change is immediate. Higher values make the transition slower, closer to the sensation of physically resisting a platter or transport.

Once RETURN and DRAG operate together, the shape has two distinct phases: the movement away from the resting point and the recovery after release.

For drums and samples, that distinction can generate transitions without requiring a stack of automation lanes. A snare fill can be stretched entering a section, then snap back. A vocal fragment can pitch downward while getting shorter. A loop can lurch out of time and return on the bar.

The effect becomes part processor and part performance control.

Triple OG Treats Cassette Problems As Transport Controls

Triple OG approaches the same broad theme from another direction.

Its basic tape controls will look familiar. TONE adjusts brightness. HISS supplies broadband tape noise. DRIVE adds saturation. AGE moves from zero to 60 years and changes several qualities together, including darkness, noise, saturation, speed stability, and left-right matching.

Those controls can create conventional cassette coloration, but they are not the main reason Triple OG feels unusual.

The defining section is the transport.

Gazillion describes Triple OG’s cassette transport around three forms of movement: WOW FLUT, CATCH, and BEND.

WOW FLUT supplies continuous speed instability. CATCH makes the simulated machine lose control on its own by dragging, jamming, and recovering. It operates from its own timing behavior, though the interface has a trigger for deliberately causing a catch.

BEND is the manual component. Move it toward the reverse side and the transport falls behind. Throw it in the other direction and it can run forward. Release it and the control springs back to its resting state.

The significant design decision is that the transport does not behave like a static modulation generator. The producer can interrupt it.

Gazillion states that grabbing BEND overrides a CATCH already taking place rather than forcing the two transport behaviors to fight each other. That makes the manual gesture take priority, closer to handling a machine than layering several independent LFOs.

Wow And Flutter Become Starting Points Instead Of The Whole Effect

Real tape transports were engineered to avoid unstable movement.

Sound On Sound’s technical discussion of analogue tape speed variation explains that mechanical transport imperfections create several forms of speed instability, including drift, wow, flutter, and faster scrape flutter. Better tape machines reduced those behaviors because pitch instability was a fault engineers wanted to minimize.

Software production has reversed part of that relationship.

A perfectly stable digital recording has no mechanical capstan, pinch roller, stretched belt, reel, or cassette shell introducing accidental speed changes. Producers who want that movement have to add it deliberately.

Many tape plugins solve the problem by supplying a WOW or FLUTTER amount. That reproduces the audible symptom. Triple OG asks what happens if the producer can interfere with the transport directly.

CATCH turns failure into an event.

BEND turns speed change into a gesture.

WOW FLUT supplies the continuous background instability linking those larger events together.

That is why the plugin’s tape concept is better understood through movement than through warmth. TONE, HISS, DRIVE, and AGE establish the medium. The transport controls make the medium perform.

The Forward Bend Explains Triple OG’s Latency

Triple OG’s forward movement presents a technical problem that also reveals how the effect works.

Dragging recorded audio backward in time is straightforward: the processor can delay material it already holds. Moving ahead is harder. A real-time plugin cannot normally play future audio that has not yet arrived.

Gazillion addresses that through a reserve.

Triple OG reports about 128 ms of latency to the host. That reserved audio gives BEND material to move forward into when the producer throws the transport ahead. Modern hosts can compensate for the delay during playback and mixing, keeping the processed track aligned with the rest of the session.

Users who do not want that latency can set RESERVE to zero. The plugin then becomes a latency-free, drag-only effect; the forward throw disappears because there is no buffered future material available.

That tradeoff is unusually transparent. The roughly 128 ms figure is not hidden as an implementation detail. It is connected directly to what the performable transport can do.

For producers tracking live instruments, the zero-reserve option may make more sense. For editing drums, resampling loops, transitions, or processing printed material, the full reserve gives BEND its more unusual two-direction movement.

Both Plugins Make Release Behavior Part Of Rhythm

Skruu and Triple OG look like different effects, yet both rely on the same interaction: move something away from normal playback, release it, and listen to how it comes home.

Skruu applies that idea to independently controlled pitch and duration. Triple OG applies it to a virtual cassette transport.

That recovery behavior gives both plugins rhythmic value.

A conventional pitch-shifter can change pitch. A time-stretcher can change length. A tape plugin can produce wow and flutter. Those categories describe processing states.

Gazillion’s newer idea is to focus on transitions between states.

A parameter can overshoot.

A tape transport can catch.

A loop can fall behind.

A pitch move can snap home.

A duration change can recover on the bar.

Those events can answer kick patterns, mark fills, disturb repetitions, or create a transition into the next section.

Skruu makes more sense when the desired effect begins with the relationship between note pitch, loop length, and playback motion. A producer can use it on drums, vocal chops, percussion, instrumental phrases, or resampled sections where pitch and timing should stop behaving as one locked pair.

Triple OG makes more sense when the desired effect should still read as tape. Its DRIVE, AGE, TONE, and HISS establish cassette character before the transport starts misbehaving.

Gazillion lists both products for Audio Unit and VST3 on macOS, plus standalone applications, with macOS 10.13 or later and support for Intel and Apple Silicon. Windows users get 64-bit VST3 support on Windows 10 or later. Skruu reports zero samples of latency, in contrast with Triple OG’s optional forward-motion reserve.

Both interfaces are resizable and come in black and brushed-aluminium appearances.

Why Tape Movement Feels Useful Again

The interesting part of Skruu and Triple OG is not that software has learned to imitate unstable tape. Producers have had convincing tape-style saturation, flutter, degradation, and pitch modulation for years.

What Gazillion Industries changes is the point of interaction.

Skruu asks producers to grab pitch or time, move it somewhere wrong, then decide how the parameter should find its way back. Triple OG asks them to grab a cassette transport, pull it behind the session, throw it forward, or let the machine stumble on its own.

Those behaviors turn tape-inspired imperfection into something closer to an instrument.

A static vintage treatment lives underneath a track. A playable movement can become part of the track’s phrasing.

That difference becomes especially clear with repetitive electronic material. A four-bar drum loop may already have the right samples and groove, yet still need a moment of instability before a drop. A vocal chop may need to collapse in pitch without becoming longer. A synth phrase may benefit from a transport drag that recovers exactly when the next section begins.

Skruu and Triple OG give those moments dedicated controls rather than asking producers to assemble them from several processors and automation curves.

Gazillion Industries may describe the products with deliberately playful language, but the production idea underneath them is concrete. Magnetic tape made pitch, duration, and transport speed inseparable physical events. Digital processing separated those variables. Skruu exploits that separation.
